SERVICES / PERGOLAS
FSI designs and builds complete outdoor living spaces for Puget Sound homeowners. One team. Pergola, kitchen, screens, and more — designed and built by one team that manages every trade in-house or through vetted partners.

the difference
A kit from a catalog is not a solution for the Pacific Northwest. FSI specifies and builds Azenco systems that are engineered for high wind loads, heavy rain, and the specific structural requirements of your property. We do not just assemble a box; we build the foundation for your entire outdoor room.

Every Azenco system uses the same 6060-T6 powder-coated aluminum and concealed hardware. The difference is how the roof behaves.

Freestanding modular pergola with manual louvers. No permit required in most Puget Sound jurisdictions.

The flagship system. Motorized louvers that seal against rain and open to sun on demand. Rain sensors close automatically.

Consistent shade and airflow with no moving parts. Patented screwless assembly and architectural fixed-slat design.

Solid insulated roof panels for maximum weather protection and temperature control. Solar panel compatible.

R-BREEZE holds the perfect angle every day.
WHAT YOU ACTUALLY GET
Every Azenco system FSI installs is specified for Pacific Northwest conditions. Here is what that means for how you use your space.
01 · BENEFIT
Not just July and August. The right structure overhead means October is not the end of your outdoor season.
02 · BENEFIT
Sealed louvers and integrated gutters route water through the posts to grade. No dripping. No pooling. No going inside.
03 · BENEFIT
Open for full sun. Closed for full protection. Every position in between, on demand from your phone.
04 · BENEFIT
Factory-finished aluminum. Concealed fasteners. No exposed bolts or cover plates. Clean lines from every angle.
05 · BENEFIT
Screens, kitchen, lighting, and heaters all mount to the same structure. Get the pergola right and the rest of the build follows.
From the first site visit to the final walkthrough, FSI manages every trade and every detail of your outdoor space.
01 / 03
Most contractors build one piece of the space. FSI can design and build the entire outdoor room — pergola, kitchen, screens, heaters, lighting, and AV — as one cohesive system, coordinating with vetted contractors if needed.
02 / 03
No contractor coordination. No missed handoffs. No blame-shifting when something does not fit. FSI manages every trade, employs the people doing the work, or subs out to vetted partners.
03 / 03
FSI has been operating in this market since 2005. This climate, these jurisdictions, these materials. Not a new dealer figuring it out. A team with over 340 completed projects.
From First Call to Finished Space

QUESTIONS?
The Azenco R-SHADE is a fixed-roof pergola system with insulated sandwich panels that provide complete overhead weather protection, thermal insulation, and a clean architectural profile. Unlike the R-BLADE's adjustable motorized louvers or the R-BREEZE's fixed angled slats, the R-SHADE has a solid, flat insulated roof — it is permanently closed overhead. This makes it the highest-weather-performance option in the Azenco line for rain and wind protection. The R-SHADE is engineered to meet High-Velocity Hurricane Zone requirements, is rated as fully waterproof, and provides meaningful thermal insulation that reduces heat gain in summer and retains warmth in the space during cooler months. The tradeoff is that the R-SHADE has no adjustability — you cannot open the roof for sun on a clear day. It is the right product for homeowners who want to create a permanent outdoor room that functions like an interior space in terms of weather protection.
The key functional difference is deployment style, footprint, and intended weather performance. A retractable awning mounts to a wall and extends horizontally over an area adjacent to the building — a fabric shade system that retracts when not in use. A pergola is a freestanding or wall-attached structure with its own aluminum frame, roof system, and structural posts that define a dedicated outdoor space — it is a permanent architectural element. An awning is typically a lower-cost, faster-installation solution for shading a door, window, or small patio area where a full pergola footprint is not appropriate. A pergola defines and covers a larger outdoor room with more structural permanence, weather performance options, and integration potential for screens, kitchens, and technology. FSI installs both — the consultation determines which is appropriate for the specific application and budget.
Pergola lighting is installed in and on the structure itself — LED recessed fixtures embedded in the beam soffit, LED strip lighting run along the inside of the beam channels, and fan beam fixtures that combine airflow with integrated LED. Pergola lighting creates the ceiling-level ambient light that makes the outdoor space feel like a room after dark. Landscape lighting is installed below the structure footprint — path lights along walkways, uplighting on trees and architectural features, downlighting from elevated positions on the home's exterior, and accent lighting on planting beds and stone features. The two lighting categories work together to create a layered lighting environment. FSI designs both in coordination so the landscape lighting does not create visual conflict with the pergola lighting and the overall effect reads as a designed outdoor environment.
The R-BLADE has motorized louvers controlled by remote, app, or automated sensors — they open and close electrically in response to weather and user input. The K-BANA has manual louvers adjusted by hand at 130 degrees of rotation. The R-BLADE responds to rain automatically and provides gapless waterproof coverage when closed. The K-BANA provides shade management and partial weather protection but does not seal against sustained rain the way the motorized R-BLADE does. The R-BLADE is the premium motorized product suited for year-round Pacific Northwest weather management. The K-BANA is the manual product suited for shade control and aesthetic value in a simpler, lower-cost system. FSI recommends the R-BLADE to most Pacific Northwest customers who want year-round usability. The K-BANA is recommended where the primary use case is summer shade or where the price difference is a meaningful factor.
The R-BLADE, R-BREEZE, R-SHADE, and K-BANA are the four Azenco pergola systems FSI installs, and each is designed for a different use case and budget. The R-BLADE is the flagship motorized system with dual-walled louvers that open and close via motor, controlled by remote, wall switch, app, or automated sensors for rain and temperature. It is the right choice if you want full year-round flexibility, light control, and smart home integration. The R-BREEZE is a fixed louvered system with slats permanently set at 55 or 90 degrees providing consistent shade and airflow with no motor. The R-SHADE uses insulated solid panels for complete overhead weather protection with no adjustability. The K-BANA is a manual louvered system adjusted by hand, modular in design, and the most accessible price point of the four. FSI recommends the right model after an on-site assessment of your space, sun orientation, intended use, and budget.
Most FSI customers in the Pacific Northwest end up in the R-BLADE because of the climate. Eight months of the year you want the louvers closed. Two months you want them fully open. The ability to adjust — and to have the system adjust automatically — is what separates a pergola that gets used year-round from one that sits closed from October through April.
